The Cereal City Lions Club was chartered in 1958. At that time the only Lions Club in Battle
Creek met at noon. The Cereal City Lions Club provided an evening alternative to those
wishing to become Lions.

Lions Clubs are members of the International Association of Lions Clubs, headquartered in
Chicago, Illinois, founded in 1917, and presently consists of 1,324,000 members in 45,358
clubs located in 202 countries around the world. We were challenged in 1925 by the late Helen
Keller to become "Knights of the Blind". Sight Conservation and assistance have been our
highest priority from our beginning and includes diabetes, which is the biggest cause of
eyesight problems.

FUND RAISING

Our major fund raiser is White Cane Days the third week in April each year, although we
began holding a golf scramble fund raiser in 2007. The golf outing has become a regular
annual event and on 9/11/2009 we will be holding our third annual outing.
Lions Bylaws require
all funds received from public fund raising be used only for public service.

REGULAR MEETINGS

Our meetings are held at The Hunt Club at 544 W. Columbia Avenue, Battle Creek on the 2nd
and 4th Wednesdays of each month at 6:30 pm. A typical meeting includes singing, a three-
course meal, a speaker and various "fun activities". In place of two regular meetings we have a
charter night in September and an installation night in June. At these meetings we have a more
festive atmosphere and include spouses.

DRESS CODE

Men wear coat and tie or a Lions vest and tie. Women wear dresses or slacks and a blouse.
The dress code is relaxed during the summer.
